6 Down, 1 to Go.

We’ve now performed this program six times, which is more than I’ve ever performed an orchestra program.  I did a few long opera runs in Philly during my freelancing days, but I’ve never had the experience of playing a symphony so many times in a row.  It’s interesting.  There are times when the physical familiarity of the piece is incredibly freeing and enjoyable, but as SOON as I start patting myself on the back for how well I know the piece, I screw up the easiest part.  I wonder how many times I’d have to play Rachmaninoff 2nd symphony before I could safely let down my guard.  Probably zillions.
